Letter: The United States’ beacon has gone dark

The United States was once the envy of the world. A beacon of trust, hope and democracy. Now, with that megalomaniac who dreams of ruling a la Putin and Kim Jong Un, aided and abetted by Republican legislators willing to betray their oath “to preserve and defend the Constitution,” we are now viewed with surprise, suspicion and doubt.
