Letter: Once the enemy was war, now it’s the pandemic

When the United States declared war on Germany, Italy and Japan in 1941, I was fifteen and remember the war well. Europe had fallen to the Nazis and enemy submarines were sinking our ships in the Atlantic in great numbers.  Britain was losing the battle. The draft was enacted and five members of my family actively served.Women filled jobs  previously held by men. Many items were rationed, including dairy products, meat, rubber and gasoline.
