"Spooky" Avalanche Conditions Forecasted in Colorado

A few days ago, the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) warned skiers that avalanche conditions were "spooky moderate."The unofficial danger level, the CAIC explained, accounted for the wiggle-room inherent to the North American Public Avalanche Danger Scale (NAPADS), which breaks down avalanche danger into five distinct levels: low, moderate, considerable, high, and extreme.
 "While it's a valuable tool, Mother Nature doesn't always fit neatly into these boxes," the CAIC wrote. "W
