Massive Rockfall Captured on Matterhorn Illustrates Increased Climbing Risk

A major rockfall occurred on an iconic Swiss peak, the Matterhorn, on August 5, 2026.Clouds of dust could be seen rising from the massif as debris tumbled down the Italian side of the mountain, known as the Cervino. No injuries or fatalities were reported as a result of the event.
