Mammoth Mountain, California Opening Weekend Conditions Report

The drive south along Highway 395 from the Lake Tahoe area to Mammoth Mountain, California has to be one of the most scenic in the world.
In mid-November, the towering peaks of the Sierra, and then the Eastern Sierra, are blanketed by an ever-growing layer of snow. A few of the rocky behemoths appear to jut 5,000+ feet straight up from the brown, tumbleweed-ridden desert floor.As I approached Mammoth, I opted to take the Mammoth Scenic Loop, an unplowed road that was covered by multiple inches o
