California Skiers Are Up in Arms Over Potential Avalanche Forecaster Layoff

The Sierra Avalanche Center (SAC), which provides avalanche forecasts to the Lake Tahoe, California area, said in a recent social media post that it might lose one of its staff forecasters as part of ongoing federal government staff cuts.The layoff, which would be initiated by the U.S. Forest Service and could go into effect as early as next week, would put lives at risk, SAC said.
