Beloved New Mexico Cross-Country Ski Area To Close After "Difficult" Winters

After 40 years, Enchanted Forest, a cross-country skiing staple in New Mexico near Red River, has announced that it won’t open for the 2026-27 season, citing fickle snow conditions and the cost of liability insurance and other expenses, but owners still believe it could have a second life. 
The decision, penned in a letter published by owners Ellen Miller-Goins and Geoff Goins, wasn’t “easy.”
