Four years ago, when Kirby Dach was acquired by Kent Hughes, the player was offered a four-year contract. The thinking was this: his contract wouldn't take him all the way to unrestricted free agency (he is currently a restricted free agent), but would bring him one season closer to unrestricted free agency.
