Senate amends protective order law in response to Sandy killings

SALT LAKE CITY — The Senate passed SB27 quickly Monday afternoon, amending the laws on domestic violence, dating violence and stalking that may have saved a Sandy woman and her son.
Memorez Rackley and her son, Jase, were gunned down by a man she had once dated, Jeremy Patterson, on June 6 on a Sandy street. Patterson then took his own life.
SB27 amends the law to expand the ability to obtain a proctective order to those who have or had a relationship with a suspect but never cohabited.
