Police: 1 dead in West Valley City shooting; dog also killed

WEST VALLEY CITY — One person and a dog were killed when someone fired a gun at a car in West Valley City late Thursday, authorities said.
There were other people in the vehicle at the time, West Valley Police said on Twitter, but they were not injured.
The shooting, which took place about 9:30 p.m. at Bangerter Highway and 4100 South, shut down a portion of the freeway late Thursday.
No further details were immediately released.
