Lightning sparks fire, forces evacuations of 30 Springville homes

SPRINGVILLEA fire believed to be sparked by lightning in the foothills forced temporary evacuations of up to 30 homes Wednesday, authorities said.
The blaze began about 6:45 p.m. near 1600 North and 400 East, said Springville Police Lt. Warren Foster. It traveled about three-quarters of a mile to the southeast.
Crews doused the flames, but the fire got close enough to some homes that residents were using water from garden hoses to protect their yards.
