Kaufusi gets head start as Provo's new mayor

PROVO — Michelle Kaufusi is getting an early start as Provo's first woman mayor.
The Provo City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to appoint her acting mayor, effective immediately.
Kaufusi, elected in November as Provo's next executive, begins her term three weeks early. She succeeds John Curtis, who resigned when he won Jason Chaffetz's 3rd District congressional seat last month.
Kaufusi, 51, said she was looking forward to her first day on the job.
