US, rights groups say UN rights council vote lets abusers in
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Human rights groups and the United States say new elections to the U.N. Human Rights Council are giving abusive countries a seat at a table where they should be called out.
Eighteen countries were chosen in a U.N. General Assembly vote Friday. They include the Philippines, which has gotten wide international condemnation for a deadly drug crackdown, and Eritrea, which has faced criticism of its use of military conscription.
