Tribute to 9/11 workers takes shape in granite country

BARRE, Vt. (AP) — A memorial to rescue and recovery workers who labored in the ruins of the World Trade Center and those who were sickened by its toxins is taking shape in granite country of Vermont.
Workers at Rock of Ages granite studio in Barre (BEHR’-ee) are chipping and chiseling slabs of granite that will be installed at the national 9/11 memorial in New York this spring.
Six stone monoliths weighing between 15 and 18 tons (13,600 to 15,800 kilograms) will flank a new path surr
