Study says the number of women in prison doubles

TUCSON – A bipartisan political organization called fwd.us has released the third and final report for a study called, Arizona’s Imprisonment Crisis.
It said over the last 30 years, prison populations across the nation have skyrocketed. The report found that this number was especially high for women within the system. It has nearly doubled since the year 2000.
The study said the growth is not from a larger resident population or a growing crime rate, but rather poor policy choices.
