Stocks open lower on Wall Street as Powell urges more action

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening lower on Wall Street as traders assessed what new steps the government may need to take to prevent more wreckage to the economy because of shutdowns related to the coronavirus pandemic. The S&P 500 fell 0.9% in early trading Wednesday. Shortly before trading opened, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell urged Congress and the White House to take more action to prevent long-term economic damage, warning that many small businesses and households could sti
