Mining company workers to go on strike against labor contracts

TUCSON – About 2,000 hourly workers at five ASARCO LLC locations in Arizona and Texas will go on strike after a vote on Friday evening, according to The United Steelworkers.
The workers are striking against unfair labor practices.
Workers who sacrificed to sustain the company during past downturns have earned and deserve a fair contract with better and more secure earnings, benefits and pensions, but ASARCO has proposed the complete opposite, said USW District 12 Director Robert LaVenture.
