MacArthur Foundation announces millions in justice grants

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia has been awarded an additional $4 million to continue cutting its jail population, and city officials say they will use the new funding to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in the criminal justice system.
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced Wednesday that it will give implementation grants to 13 cities and counties and 12 smaller grants to others looking to start innovative programs to reduce jail populations.
