Kosovo’s president resigns to face war crimes charges

PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) — Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci has resigned in order to face charges for war crimes and crimes against humanity stemming from the late 1990s. The charges were made public in June by a special prosecutor’s office in The Hague that was set up to investigate former ethnic Albanian rebel leaders for murder, torture and other alleged crimes during Kosovo’s war for independence from Serbia.
