Iran says 5.6 magnitude earthquake strikes its south

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Authorities in Iran say an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.6 has shaken the country’s south.
Officials say the earthquake Monday struck near Kukherd, a city in Iran’s Hormozgan province. Kukherd is some 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) south of Iran’s capital, Tehran.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
State TV described the depth of the temblor at 10 kilometers (6 miles). It offered no other immediate information.
