GOP unlikely to reprise role it played in Nixon’s 1974 exit

NEW YORK (AP) — Two years into the Watergate scandal, three Republican leaders in Congress paid a visit to President Richard Nixon at the White House in August 1974. They brought the message that Nixon faced near-certain impeachment due to eroding support from his own party on Capitol Hill.
Nixon announced his resignation the next day.
Political experts say it’s possible, but unlikely, that a similar drama will unfold in the later stages of the impeachment inquiry Democrats have begu
