Federal judge rules in Rosemont Mine case

TUCSON – A federal judge has ruled to overturn the U.S. Forest Service’s approval of a Rosemont Mine open pit project in the Santa Rita Mountains.
The ruling blocks Toronto-based Hudbay Minerals from beginning construction on the proposed $1.9 billion mine in the Coronado National Forest.
Several conservation groups and tribes sued to stop construction on the mine, arguing it would threaten historic sites and endangered animals.
