CBP agent dies after contracting COVID-19

MARANA, Ariz. (KVOA) - A United States Customs and Border Protection officer who died after contracting COVID-19 will be laid to rest Thursday in Marana.
According to a non-profit dedicated to fallen officers, Officer Byron Don Shields was exposed to the virus while on the job.
He was an Army veteran and had served with CBP for 18 years.
The officer died on Jan. 20 at the age of 54.
