81-year-old deemed mentally fit for trial on robbery charge
PHOENIX (AP) — A judge has ruled an 81-year-old man who has spent most of his adult life behind bars for stealing from banks is mentally fit to stand trial on a charge that he robbed a credit union in Tucson.
Robert Krebs claimed he has had symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
But a psychologist had found Krebs didn’t have a mental illness or cognitive impairment and instead was malingering to avoid prosecution for the 2018 robbery in Tucson.
