Board of Education OKs higher budget request, hears ideas to overhaul student testing system

The request for fiscal year 2018 includes a total increase of $221 million more than the current appropriation. Officials also said new state assessments will be constructed to allow for direct comparisons with national test results in grades four, eight and 11 and on college-admissions exams.
