Race for the ballot box

Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson, left, and City Councilman Yvonne Harper playfully battle to be the first to cast a ballot on the opening day of the Lucas County Early Vote Center. Ms. Harper said she has been first to vote for at least 10 years, but the mayor was the first to cast her ballot this year because of a glitch with the voter card issued to Ms. Harper. The problem was quickly resolved, but the mayor won Wednesday’s contest.
