Chad Kaiser, lampist, installs a second-order Fresnel lighthouse lens, which was brought from Vermilion, Ohio, with grant money, at the National Museum of the Great Lakes. He was working Friday. A Fresnel lens can capture more oblique light and allow the light from a lighthouse to be visible over greater distances. Fresnel made lenses in six sizes.
