Not so mighty: ‘Kong: Skull Island’ misses its lofty mark

Bill Randa (John Goodman) and his assistant Houston Brooks (Corey Hawkins) have an important fund-it-or-our-company-is-dead meeting with a U.S. senator. The year is 1973, just as the United States announced its intentions to exit the Vietnam War, and the pair want to visit and investigate a mysterious, hidden South Pacific island, which may be home to something big and ferocious. To make this happen they need the senator to OK the mission and the military personnel to assist them.
