A patriotic immigrant should not be defined by length of citizenship

I try not to respond to angry comments by Blade readers about my columns. I believe in civility, and if objection or disagreement is framed in civil tones, I try to respond by thanking the person for the comments. However, a recent letter to the Readers Forum in The Blade and a longer version of the same letter sent to me directly, raises some interesting questions.
