UTHSC's Altha Stewart named president-elect of American Psychiatric Association

Dr. Altha Stewart has been named the president-elect of the 37,000-member American Psychiatric Association (APA).Stewart, a native of South Memphis, will be the first African-American to lead the 173-year-old organization, which sets policy, establishes practice guidelines and represents the field of psychiatry nationally and internationally.Stewart will be the fourth consecutive woman to lead the organization. She will begin her tenure as president-elect in May and become president in May 2018.
