State: Negligence caused huge Atlantic salmon breakout
The collapse of a salmon net pen last August, which released 250,000 or more Atlantic salmon into Salish Sea waters, was due to the negligence of its operator, Cooke Aquaculture Pacific, a state investigation has found.The probe reported that Cooke substantially underestimated the number of Atlantic salmon that escaped, and said 186,000 to 206,000 of the non-native species remain unaccounted for.
