Record count reported for mysterious paralyzing illness

The current mystery can be traced to 2012, when three cases of limb weakness were seen in California. The condition is called acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM. So far this year, there have been 158 confirmed cases, spread among 36 states, including Washington state.
