Outdoors industry mobilizes hikers in multimillion-dollar battle over public lands

Outdoors companies such as Patagonia and REI have become consumer powerhouses and political players. A sign of their clout came this year, when the industry decided to pull its trade show from Utah because of a dispute over Bears Ears National Mounument.
