‘Explorer at heart’: American missionary killed in India

John Allen Chau, 26, was from southwestern Washington state but had worked and traveled all over, from the Cascade Mountains to South Africa. A friend described him as driven by twin passions: a love of the outdoors and fervent Christianity. He was killed this month on an island in India.
