After 113 years, Ballard Transfer hoists its last load

Founded in 1905 as a horse-drawn hauler of fuel oil, Ballard Transfer grew to become a mover of choice for the largest and most complicated objects — from MRIs and naval cannons to gorillas. But unable to find a new generation of movers, the family-owned company hoisted its last load the Friday before Christmas.
