Fire marshal retires

St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard gave Quientin Phillips, 6, a toy fire helmet and thanks him July 5, 2016, after he spotted smoke outside an apartment building in the 1600 block of East Seventh Street and alerted people to a fire. Steve Zaccard, who served as St. Paul's fire marshal for 33 years and was often the public face of the fire department, retired on Tuesday.
