US Patent No. 9,725,679 B2; Ecolab USA Inc., Saint Paul, MN, has patented a method of conditioning and softening fabrics that entails washing fabric in a detergent with a pH range of about 7 to about 14; contacting the fabric with a fabric softening composition comprising one or more quaternary amidoamine softening agents; contacting the fabric with a softening booster composition comprising an alumino-silicates clay; and drying the fabric.
