Pittsburgh gets serious about saving, preserving its old records

Records of everything Pittsburgh City Council has ever done are preserved in a vault the size of a small conference room in the City-County Building. They are organized chronologically, from heavy tomes in florid 18th-century handwriting to thin envelopes stacked in neat drawers.
