PERS proposals get skeptical response

Gov. Kate Brown proposed steps to address Oregon’s $26.6 billion public pension liability Friday, and it was met with some skepticism from parts of both the business community and teachers.Her proposal also received a qualified thumbs up from one group advocating reform of the Public Employees Retirement System that has strained the budgets of school districts and other public employers saddled with funding the system’s obligations to retired workers.Part of Brown’s proposal ca
