Columbia Must Open Its Gates

For immigrants, a gate is never just a gate.
It is a reminder of who is invited in and who is expected to remain outside. It is the feeling of approaching an institution full of promise and being told, sometimes subtly and sometimes plainly, that it was not built with you in mind.
That is why the continued closure of Columbia University’s gates is so troubling, both to the people who live around the campus and t
