A massive power failure on July 14, 1977 left New York City in the dark. The 24-hour blackoutled to acts of vandalism in some parts of the city. FormerNew York City Mayor Abraham Beame said some 2,000 people were arrested.Firefightersanswered 1,500 alarms stores throughout the city; 400 of which were actual fires.
