MTA approves fare, toll hike

The base fare of a single subway or bus ride in New York City will go up a quarter, from $2.50 to $2.75.  The Board of the The Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved the anticipated increase on Thursday.  The Board also approved a proposed toll hike. The increases are expected to take effect in March.
