Man to swim dirty Gowanus Canal

While some people will be planting trees and recycling garbage on Earth Day, Christopher Swain will be swimming the Gowanus Canal, notorious for its polluted water. The clean water advocate from Brooklyn wants to highlight the condition of the canal and push to clean it up once and for all. "I am going to swim the entire 1.8 miles of the canal. I will be swimming in a dry suit, wearing cap, goggles," said Swain.
