Incongruence. That was the only word I could think of to explain my apathy.
I was 22 and a senior in college, speaking to a friend about—and the alcohol clouds my memory of the night—the potential for social change and the impact it could have on the personal sphere. Despite political gains and the rising tides of tolerance and acceptance, the road ahead felt, nonetheless, paved with futility. I’d soberly consumed Quentin Crisp’s The Naked Civil Servant earlie
