State legislative campaigns facing major shakeup

ALBANY - State lawmakers might have to rebuild their campaign teams next year if a budget proposal introduced last month is enacted into law.Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo wants to ban employees of elected officials from volunteering for their campaigns. The measure would effectively end the biennial tradition of legislative staffers being paid for dozens of hours of compensatory time in the summer and fall as they work on campaign activities, often during regular business hours.
