Shifting budget funds to pay raises for state legislators

ALBANY - New York needs to find more than $1.6 million in the state budget to fund raises for state lawmakers in the first quarter of 2019.The additional costs are the result of salary increases for members of the state Assembly and Senate that will take effect on January, when the base pay will go from $79,500 to $110,000. The current state budget, which runs through March 31, was adopted before the raises were approved.
