Lawmaker wants to ban chick incubations

ALBANY — A Manhattan lawmaker wants to ban the incubation and hatching of baby chicks in schools, saying the practice is cruel and leads to the abandonment and death of countless young birds each year.Educators, though, say they take steps to find homes for the newborn chickens or ducks. And incubations are a time-honored way to give young kids a hands-on biology lesson.
