ALBANY – The University at Albany saw a record number of applications this year, a trend university officials say has just as much to do with the state's new free tuition program as it does the college's growing name recognition.Freshman applications are up 5 percent over last year to just under 25,000, while transfer applications are up an unprecedented 11 percent to 4,796.
