Decades later, sailor's remains return to Albany

ALBANY — After 77 years and 141 days, Charles M. Stern Jr. is finally coming home.The remains ofStern, a sailor from Albany who was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, will arrive at Albany International Airport Friday afternoon and laid to rest on Sunday in Loudonville's Beth Emeth Cemetery.Stern was a 26-year-old ensign assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma when Japanese planes attacked Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941.
