As domestic violence cases spike across New York during the coronavirus pandemic, federal legislation with protections for abuse victims and funding for shelters remains stalled the Senate.In February 2019, the Violence Against Women Act expired leaving uncertainty about the billions in federal funding and victim safeguards it authorizes. The House passed a new version of the bill in April 2019, but the legislation has not yet passed the Senate.
